Counselling & Psychotherapy for Individuals

Who I see
Some of the more severe problems for which people seek psychotherapy with me include PTSD, bipolar disorder, chronic, long term depression and severe childhood trauma.

The most common reasons people see me are stress, depression, anxiety, anger management, grief, past and recent trauma, relationship difficulties, sexual problems, obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviour and general, non-specific unhappiness.

I also provide counselling to those wishing to enrich their lives. For example by improving communication skills, developing emotional literacy, assertiveness or raising self esteem.

How I work
I provide  face-to-face and online sessions.
Individual sessions are 50 minutes long.

What's involved?
Sessions are usually held weekly and preferably at the same time each week so if at all possible, please be prepared to commit to this fixed point in your weekly diary. Were it is not possible to commit to a weekly session ( for example if you work shifts or travel for work) I will try to accomodate you but please let me know about this when you make your enquiry.

I do not offer a free 'taster' session. Our work will begin immediately. However, I am happy to talk on the phone or answers questions via email.

If after the 1st session you decide that you do not want to continue, you are of course under no obligation to.  Very occasionally I may decide that  what I have to offer would not best suite you. If that is the case I will let you know and may be able to suggest alternative therapies.

How long will it take?
You can choose to go for a 'time limited' approach, were we decide at the outset how many counselling or psychotherapy sessions we will have together (ten sessions is common). This is a way of working that tends to be highly focused and can be very time effective. It has the advantage that you know the total cost at the outset. On the other hand, it can feel time pressured. In an 'open ended' approach, we decide not to limit the total number of sessions at the start of the process. This allows for longer, deeper work that may have more long lasting, life changing effects then brief counselling. If you decide on an 'open ended ' approach, you will decide when you feel ready to end.
